Prominent Senate Democrat Talks About ‘Embarrassing’ Biden Scandal

Michigan Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow recognized that President Biden’s handling of classified information from his time as vice president may appear hypocritical, given his previous condemnation of former President Trump for similar actions. However, she also criticized Republicans for attempting to further investigate the matter.

After classified material was discovered at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence, Biden had stated that it was “just totally irresponsible.” During a Sunday interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” host Chuck Todd questioned Stabenow if Biden would have to retract his previous statement.

“Well, it’s certainly embarrassing. Right?” Stabenow replied. “I mean it’s embarrassing that you would find a small number of documents, certainly not on purpose. They don’t think it’s the right thing and they’ve been moving to correct it, working with the Department of Justice, working with everyone involved, with the Archives, and so from my perspective, you know, it’s one of those moments that obviously they wish hadn’t happened.”

The Democrat from Michigan then directed her attention to Republicans such as Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson, who was also present on the show that day.

“But what I’m most concerned about: this is the kind of thing that the Republicans love,” she said. “We just heard it from my colleague Senator Johnson. Let’s talk about investigations, let’s talk about chaos.”

Stabenow stated that by probing into Biden, Republicans would be hindering the economy. She argued that the country is currently experiencing a “manufacturing resurgence” under Biden’s leadership, in addition to increases in wages and reductions in unemployment.

She also claims that people in her state of Michigan “aren’t interested in all of this, just chaos, and investigations, which is where the Republicans feel comfortable, unfortunately.”

On the same day that Stabenow made her statements, the Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, Kentucky Representative James Comer, sent a letter to the White House chief of staff, Ron Klain, requesting visitor logs from Biden’s residence in Wilmington, Delaware, citing concerns about national security following the discovery of classified materials there.
