Former acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf and several current Homeland officials in a report by Just The News warn that the Biden administration’s changes to border policy will be altering the data on illegal immigration without actually addressing the problem. The scheme by the administration is to incentivize illegal aliens to seek parole and asylum at the port of entry while reducing the use of aerostats, surveillance balloons, by border agents that will hamper border agents’ ability to track illegal entry.
Just The News explained that Mayorkas’s new policy would allow as many as 30,000 illegal aliens to receive parole entry at a port of entry while other asylum claims would be considered. Almost two dozen states have sued to argue that this policy is illegal under current immigration law.
Wolf complained that “[The Biden administration is] just simply moving [illegal aliens] from the desert or across the river into a port of entry. But the result remains the same, which is they are doing nothing to deter this type of behavior. And they continue to incentivize and encourage it.” In effect, the administration hopes to mislead the American public that the border crisis has eased while it has shifted to underhanded tactics to cover up the major scale of the crisis.
Wolf also noted, “They announced last week they are reducing the number of aerostats that the Border Patrol uses, which are big balloons. They are another type of balloon, not Chinese, but another type of balloon that they use along that border for domain awareness so that they understand what’s going on the border. And they track gotaways with that technology as well. So you’re also going to see in the next several months the number of gotaways go significantly down, not because there are less of them, but because the department now has less capability to track them.”
Wolf estimated that the parole policy change could misleadingly lower the statistics of illegal entry by at least 360,000 for this year alone. He underscored this by saying, “You can show up at the border or show up at a port of entry and be released into the United States. So the result, unfortunately, is the same, which is hundreds of thousands, millions of folks are being released into the United States under a false asylum claim.”
Mark Morgan, a former Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner under Obama and Trump, seconded Wolf’s concerns over manipulation. Morgan termed it as “a perversion and violation of the law.” He explained that “This is why we’re calling it a shell game. Because this administration, Secretary Mayorkas has simply made a deal with migrants from around the world, 171 different countries.”
He continued, “They said, ‘Look, in exchange for you stopping to illegally enter and file fraudulent claims, we’ll let you get on the CBP phone app, make an appointment to come to a port of entry, where we will continue to look the other way as you continue to file fraudulent claims. We will process and continue to release you in the United States. They simply shifted the crisis from in between the borders, to the ports of entry.”
This pins Mayorkas down to yet another border-related scandal and furthers the case to impeach him. It also furthers a more general case that this administration as a whole has engaged in a lawless fashion and is guilty of dereliction of a basic duty to safeguard the American border.
