Ok, he didn’t phrase it quite like that, but he might as well have. He began the conversation by referencing the HBO comedy show Veep: “One of the themes of the show is that her character, Selina Meyer, is frustrated by the sometimes vague duties of the role. It’s a high constitutional office but does not describe what you’re supposed to be doing. Does that ring true? Like, what’s the actual role on a daily basis as you have found it?”
Kamala, of course, promptly rambled, cackled, and 100% avoided answering the question.
“Well, I have the great privilege of serving with Joe Biden, who is the President of the United States… and was Vice President […] He really is a true partner and he understands that job.” She then rambled on about how she came in during the “height of the pandemic” and what an extraordinary leader Joe Biden is. When he’s sentient.
Colbert didn’t let her get away with such an obvious dodge of the question: “That’s an excellent answer and, uh, the question was what’s the job of the Vice President. And your answer is part of the job, I’m guessing.”
She then gave an example of one of her recent “duties”: accusing Russia of crimes against humanity. Oh. How’s that southern border looking, Ms. Border Czar?
Good for Stephen Colbert for not letting her off easy. Her answer just seems to confirm that she either has absolutely no idea what her job is, or simply doesn’t do anything. Plus, combined with Joe Biden’s dementia, this paints a concerning picture of what’s going on inside the Oval Office. Who the heck is actually running the country? Obama? Zelenskyy? Marianne Williamson? The world may never know.
